JOB TITLE: CERAMIC/POTTERY STUDIO TECHNICIAN
LOCATION: Tsawwassen, BC

REMUNERATION: $22+
THE ART DEPARTMENT is a ceramic and multi-media art studio dedicated to our mission which includes four objectives: encouraging creativity, facilitating community, developing competence and enlivening curiosity. We provide a welcoming environment for artists of all skill levels to explore their passion for various visual arts.
JOB OVERVIEW: We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Ceramics/Pottery Studio Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ceramics, experience with electric kiln operation, and a passion for maintaining studio equipment and materials to ensure a safe and productive environment for all users.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the setup and maintenance of studio equipment for both hand building and wheel throwing, including kilns and, pottery wheels.., and hand-building tools.
Firing, loading and unloading of kilns ceramic pieces, ensuring proper temperature and timing for various clay bodies and glazes.
Prepare clay and materials for classes and workshops, including mixing glazes and maintaining inventory
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio environment, adhering to health and safety regulations and standards for a clay studio.
Provide technical support and guidance to studio members and students, helping them with projects and techniques.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or maintenance as needed.
Collaborate with the studio manager and instructors to ensure smooth daily operations.
Manage the firing schedule and communicate with students and members when firings will occur, when their pieces are ready for glazing and for pick up.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience working with clay, with a strong understanding of various techniques and materials.
Familiarity with electric kiln operation and basic maintenance.
Ability to mix glazes according to specifications.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Reliable transportation is required. Location in Tsawwassen, BC

Pottery Instructors – Wheel Throwing & Hand Building

The Art Department is South Delta’s creative hub — an 1,800 sq ft studio offering classes and workshops in ceramics, mixed media, painting, drawing, jewelry-making, and more. We’re a community-minded space that encourages creativity at every level, from total beginners to lifelong artists.
About the Role
We’re looking for one or more skilled and welcoming potters to teach beginner wheel-throwing and/or hand building classes and occasionally host one-night throw-and-go sessions in Tsawwassen. This role is about sharing the fundamentals of clay while creating an encouraging, fun and creative studio atmosphere.
You will:
Guide beginners through wheel-throwing and/or hand building basics
Lead fun, low-pressure throw-and-go classes
Demonstrate techniques with clarity and care
Support each student’s learning and creative process
Help keep the studio safe, clean, and inviting

Strong wheel-throwing and/or hand building skills
A patient, approachable teaching style
A love of clay, learning, and community
Part-time and flexible, including weekday, weeknight, and/or weekend classes. Perfect for clay artists who enjoys teaching and connection.
